Call me a Life Coach to use the current day register used to describe persons with my pedigree, and you won’t be wrong!
I started out in life as a professional in the field of accounting. Became a fellow (FCA) decades back, Member Taxation Institute (CITN) and Institute of Management (NIM). Worked across Industries in Top management and was set to invest in no other sphere of human life but help in balancing facts and figures and interpreting them, earning good salaries.
After about two decades, having moved from just a professional to wife , mum and home maker, there was a paradigm shift as my passion for family and parenting grew. I moved on to playing a vital role in the area of investing in people through counselling and mentoring of young men and women on relationships, marriage, life goals etc.
Parenting, became my ‘first love’ especially the ‘teenage and young adults’ because of the desire to see them grow up into stable young adults. Having been married for over 2 decades and successfully raised along with my husband, four young adults. Over the years, my focus is on helping the teens to contribute their quota to the society, thus making it a better and more secure community and nation for all. I yearn to reduce the anguish and disappointments of parents, many of whom got to that ‘Teens Threshold ‘ in their parenting adventure without requisite knowledge or skills on the different stages of parenting.
This birthed my first book: ‘Let’s Talk. A Guide For Teenage Parenting’ . Knowledge gleaned through experience and research as my children got to that threshold. It was on that journey I discovered ‘Effective parenting is learned’….it is in no way instinctive beyond the toddler years. I say the new Teenage is 8! Puberty sets in much faster now!!
I got a lot of recommendations and testimonials from most who took time to read the book and began to get invites to Speak home and abroad but soon I began to get reactions like ” oh I wish I read this book earlier….things have already gone wrong, what can I do? That birthed my second 1in 3 volumes books. ” It’s Gone All Wrong! Is it too Late? Volumes 1, 2 and 3 which addresses the many ‘failures ‘that parents deal with ; proferring action steps to redirect parenting. Have your children stopped communicating? Have they gotten into drinking and smoking or even drugs? Has your teenage daughter gotten into all manner of relationships or even gotten pregnant? Do you feel you’ve failed as a parent and guilt is beginning to weigh you down? These and many other issues, the 3 books address and a must for every parent’s library. The 5th booklet ‘ The Busy Parent’ was to meet the yearning of parents who understand the need to learn and needed a summary of parenting tips and skills in a few pages to keep in their cars, offices and give out as gifts.
As a testimony, married for 28 years and counting; our children have turned out very successful ; topped the charts in school and consulting/working at their choice industry/companies. I currently serve as a Junior Church Teacher at the headquarters of Daystar Christian Centre, Lagos, Nigeria and Caring Heart member where I get involved in outreaches to the less fortunate in the society at least once a quarter.
Susan is very passionate that teenagers and young adults can even in this clime of massive Information Technology, exposure to sex and sexuality and even violence still have a wholistic, pure and clear view of who they are and what God intends for them and be models. . I Love to see youths grow up focused and responsible.
